Artist statement
„Meine frühen Arbeiten verbindet, dass sie nur behandeln, was in direkter Verbindung zu mir selbst steht. Wichtig war mir, meine eigene Geschichte als Ausgang zu nehmen… also mir auf diesem Weg nichts anzueignen, das vielleicht jemand anderem gehört. Aber ich intendiere, dass sich andere mit meiner Eigen-Auseinandersetzung identifizieren, etwas darin finden, das man von sich selbst kennt. Manchmal kann das verstören, diese Konfrontation ist oft sehr direkt.
Meine Arbeiten sind technisch sehr einfach und meist kurz gehalten. Es geht darum, einen ganz bestimmten Zustand (oder mehrere innerhalb eines Prozesses) so präzise wie möglich performativ und filmisch zu skizzieren. Beziehung ist ein Haupthema dieser Auseinandersetzung. Die Beziehung zu sich selbst und auch zu Partnern, letztere wiederum ist angelegt in den Schablonen in uns selbst, in die sich das Gegenüber an den Passstellen unfreiwillig einfügt. Wie man diesen Kreislauf durchbricht, mit dem eigenen Schatten tanzt, das interessiert mich.
Meine Videos sind für den Ausstellungskontext gedacht, dort installiert, eröffnet sich eine weitere Dimension, die entscheiden kann, wie intensiv eine Arbeit für die Betrachter wird. Texte zu und über die Arbeiten, von mir selbst geschrieben, sind weiterer Bestandteil einer Gesamtinszenierung.
Das Alterego beschäftigt mich von Anbeginn meines Schaffens. Die KünstlerIn zu sein, die in ihren Videos performt, ist ja eine Rolle per se. Seit 2021, damals in Form einer lebensgroßen Puppe, erkunde ich die Möglichkeit, einen anderen Körper auch zum Performancekörper werden zu lassen.
Die Zerstörung der Natur hat immer mehr Auswirkungen auf uns Menschen. Sind wir Teil eines großen Ganzen? Oder sind wir das große Ganze und empfinden uns als getrennt, in dem wir unser Teil-sein formulieren, aber schon in der Formulierung vom Ganzen differenzieren? Wie kann man das auflösen? Wie können wir uns auflösen? Was bin ich, wenn ich nicht mehr frage wer bin ich…? Was bleibt, wenn der Verstand Pause macht? Verlorengehen und Loslassen auf der Suche nach der inneren Heimat… ist eine neuere Annäherung an das Thema in meiner künstlerischen Arbeit.“
Artist statement
„What my early works have in common is that they only deal with things that have a direct connection to myself. It was important to me to take my own story as a starting point… in other words, not to appropriate anything that might belong to someone else. But my intention is for others to identify with my own story, to find something in it that they know from themselves. Sometimes that can be disturbing, this confrontation is often very direct.
My works are technically very simple and are usually kept brief. The aim is to sketch out a very specific state (or several within a process) as precisely as possible, both performatively and cinematically. Relationship is a central theme of this exploration. The relationship with oneself and also with partners; the latter, in turn, is embedded in the templates within ourselves, into which the other person involuntarily fits at the points of connection. I am interested in how to break this cycle, in dancing with one’s own shadow.
My videos are intended for the exhibition context; when installed there, a further dimension opens up which can determine how intensely a work resonates with the viewer. Texts about and relating to the works, written by myself, form a further component of the overall presentation.
The alter ego has fascinated me from the very beginning of my creative practice. Being the artist who performs in her own videos is, after all, a role in itself. Since 2021 – initially in the form of a life-size doll – I have been exploring the possibility of allowing another body to become a performance body as well.
The destruction of nature is having an ever-greater impact on us humans. Are we part of a greater whole? Or are we the greater whole, yet perceive ourselves as separate – by articulating our part in it, but in so doing already distinguishing ourselves from the whole? How can we resolve this? How can we dissolve ourselves? What am I, if I no longer ask ‘who am I…’? What remains when the mind takes a break? Getting lost and letting go in search of one’s inner home… is a recent approach to this theme in my artistic work.“
